Dreame and Dyson Settle Patent Dispute Before the Unified Patent Court
2026-06-02

Recently, the Hamburg Local Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) has issued a procedural order in the patent infringement dispute between Dreame and Dyson, confirming that the two parties have reached a settlement covering all contested matters, thereby terminating the interim measures proceedings.

This marks the UPC’s first case exercising long-arm jurisdiction over Spain, as well as the first matter referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) to resolve general questions of law. It also stands as a landmark case featuring a Chinese enterprise engaging with the reformed European patent system.

The specific terms of the settlement between the two parties have not yet been disclosed. Nevertheless, this settlement does not stay the preliminary reference proceedings to the CJEU previously initiated by the UPC Court of Appeal.

Dyson is the proprietor of European Patent EP3119235. A global leader in premium home appliances and personal care, the company holds more than 10,000 patents worldwide.

Founded in 2017 in Jiangsu, China, Dreame is a consumer electronics and intelligent manufacturing firm whose products are currently sold in over 120 countries and regions including China, the United States and Germany.

Since May 2025, Dyson has alleged that hair styling and personal care products manufactured, marketed and distributed by five subsidiaries of Dreame registered in Hong Kong, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom bear substantial similarities to its flagship Airwrap multi-styler. The company subsequently filed an application for interim measures with the Hamburg Local Division of the UPC, seeking an injunction prohibiting the sale of the relevant products across all UPC contracting states and in Spain.
